About Us
The Literacy Council of Montgomery County has been in existence since 2007 and is under the umbrella of MCCHIP (Montgomery County Community Health Improvement Project), which is a not-for-profit charity organization – a 501C-3 corporation.

The original purpose of the Council was to help adults who need to improve their reading skills and to teach English as a Second Language to the Hispanic population in Montgomery and Warren Counties. We have since expanded our services into GED/HiSET (High School Equivalency) preparation classes.

All services are provided by trained volunteers from Montgomery County. All services are provided free of charge to our clients.

Funding for the Literacy Council is achieved through grants and local contributions. Support has been provided by the Montgomery Area United Way, Allen P. and Josephine B. Green Foundation, People’s Savings Bank, American Bank, US Bank, Martinsburg Bank and Trust, Montgomery City Rotary Club, the Montgomery City Study Club, The Kiwanis Club of Montgomery City, CertainTeed, New Florence Wood Products, the Greater Montgomery County Economic Development Council, and other local contributions.

A special thank you to Youth In Need who provides a room in their facility for the Literacy office!

Council Meetings
The Literacy Council consists of local educators and interested citizens. They tentatively meet every other month on the 3rd Thursday at 2:00 PM at the Montgomery City Library.  Anyone is welcome to join the Council.
